Two years after the 2014 harvest, as Alex ran blending trials for our flagship Stagecoach Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, he stumbled upon a blend of two barrels whose union was nothing short of sublime. He knew without hesitation that this blend demanded its own bottling—our first Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
To honor this extraordinary wine we teamed up with Kathrine Jalaty Letterpress & Design Studio and commissioned handmade labels showcasing our family’s cattle brand. Each label depicting "El Alacran" (The Scorpion) is hand-pressed using a turn of the century letterpress with one of three distinct foils—Gold, Rose Gold, and Copper—representing each one of the Llamas Family Wines partners: Oscar, Lola, and Alex.
Aromatics of wild strawberry, dried cherries, and under-ripe plum intertwine with earthen tones of iron-rich soil and petrichor, and base notes of baking spice, tobacco, and cedar. The wine is energetic with vibrant acidity and a muscular, tannic backbone that ensures it will evolve well over the next 30+ years.
This wine is extremely rare at a mere 47 case production.
